Quick cooking notes

  • Core ingredients include cold water, granulated sugar, unsalted butter, ground cinnamon.
  • Follow all 8 steps in order for the intended texture and doneness.
  • Ingredient quantities listed below are for 6 servings.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp cold water
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cold butter, granulated sugar, and salt, mixing until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. While the dough chills, prepare the apple filling by tossing the sliced apples with lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and a tablespoon of sugar in a separate bowl.
  5. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan, then transfer it to the pan and trim any excess dough.
  6. Arrange the apple mixture evenly over the crust, and brush the edges of the crust with the beaten egg.
  7. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  8. Allow the tart to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
