Quick cooking notes

  • Core ingredients include cream cheese, brown sugar, vanilla extract, granulated sugar.
  • Follow all 13 steps in order for the intended texture and doneness.
  • Ingredient quantities listed below are for 8 servings.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 eggs (large)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sifted flour, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon together for the filling.
  7. Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Spread the melted butter over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top.
  9. Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log, and then slice it into 12 equal pieces.
  10. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  12. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by mixing the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a little milk until smooth.
  13. Once the rolls are done, let them cool slightly before drizzling the icing over the top.
