  • Follow all 10 steps in order for the intended texture and doneness.
  • Ingredient quantities listed below are for 8 servings.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • 1 tbsp ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1 stick butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 eggs (large)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast, allowing it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sifted all-purpose flour, sugar, ground cardamom, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture.
  4. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into small buns, placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Let the buns rise again for about 30 minutes, then bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While the buns are baking, prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar and vanilla extract with a little water until smooth.
  10. Drizzle the icing over the warm buns before serving.
