Prep: 20 min · Cook: 30 min · Total: 50 min · Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1.5 kg whole chicken (cut into pieces)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. In another bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture until fully coated.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Cook the chicken for about 12-15 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through, with an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  7. Remove the chicken from the skillet and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil before serving.
