Quick cooking notes

  • Core ingredients include onion, all-purpose flour, worcestershire sauce, black pepper.
  • Follow all 7 steps in order for the intended texture and doneness.
  • Ingredient quantities listed below are for 6 servings.

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 400 g canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 900 g beef round steak (tenderized)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for browning)
  • 1 large carrot (sliced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 medium green bell pepper (chopped)
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Dredge the tenderized beef round steak in flour, ensuring it is evenly coated.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the beef on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  3. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, and carrot, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the canned diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper to the skillet, stirring to combine.
  6. Return the browned beef to the skillet, cover, and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  7. Remove the bay leaf before serving. Serve the Swiss steak with the sauce over mashed potatoes or rice.
